The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact

The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact is a collaborative initiative between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties, established in 2009 to address the climate challenges facing over six million residents across Southeast Florida. The Compact brings local governments together to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions, implement adaptation strategies, and build long-term climate resilience through coordinated, region-wide action.

For more than a decade, the Compact has served as a national model for regional climate leadership—engaging municipal, state, and federal partners, alongside academic institutions and community organizations, to develop and advance a shared climate agenda.

The Compact is grounded in three key objectives:

  • Share regional tools and knowledge: Creating and disseminating standardized resources to help local governments build capacity, avoid duplication, and implement effective climate solutions.
  • Increase public support and political will: Providing a unified, nonpartisan voice that lends credibility, legitimacy, and continuity to meaningful climate action.
  • Coordinate action: Accelerating the pace and impact of efforts that increase resilience by aligning goals, strategies, and implementation across the region.

Through this framework, the Compact continues to position Southeast Florida as a leader in climate adaptation and resilience planning.

Project Overview

To support the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact’s mission and growing influence, we designed and developed a custom WordPress website that serves as both a public-facing resource and a strategic advocacy tool. We began with a discovery session to align on priorities, audiences, and how to translate the Compact’s long-standing impact into a modern, accessible digital presence.

The site features a clean, modern design system, with layout and visual elements drawn from the organization’s existing logo and color palette. It highlights the participating counties, key regional partners, and a decade-plus of climate leadership. A dedicated Action Plan section is the core of the site, outlining specific strategies and policy recommendations across sectors — including government, quasi-government agencies, civil society, the private sector, and utilities — to encourage coordinated action and empower stakeholders at all levels.

Additional components include a news section, events calendar, and an evolving collection of reports and resources that support climate planning and public engagement. Built on a responsive, mobile-friendly framework, the site ensures accessibility and usability across devices for a wide range of users — from policy makers to community members.

We implemented SEO best practices to increase discoverability and search relevance, and the WordPress CMS gives the Compact team full control over updates, publications, and new initiatives. Hosted on one of our high-performance servers, the site delivers fast load times and long-term scalability as Southeast Florida continues to lead on climate resilience.
